Students might be ready for school, but Irvine Street isn’t.
On Aug. 29, a letter from Triton Engineering Services was sent to St. Mary Catholic School principal David Marcoccia to update school staff and students on the progress of the Irvine Street reconstruction efforts.
Work along Irvine Street stretches from Colborne to John Street in Elora.
In that letter, David G. Donaldson wrote that while the underground works between John and David Street were complete, “we are anticipating that some surface works will not be completed by the first day of school.”
Buses will be able to access the temporary bus loading/unloading zone on Irvine Street at John Street.
Bussed students will access the school property through the gate at the north end of the soccer field and continue to the school playground area.
Students that are walking to school will be able to cross Irvine Street at David Street only.
Donaldson stated the contractor will provide temporary gravel access walkways for the road crossing in this area.
However, students being dropped off by parents will have no access to Irvine Street.
Parents are asked to drop their children off on David Street at John Street and join the walking students.
Alternatively, parents may drop their children off on Wellington Drive and have pedestrian access at the rear of the school.
The contractor is providing additional workers to assist with the temporary conditions and access during arrival and departure times until surface works are substantially completed within this area of the construction project.
Additional school staff will also assist with the temporary conditions during peak times.
Construction on Irvine Street between Colborne Street and David Street is anticipated through to early November.
No vehicular or pedestrian access will be permitted in this area during that time.
