Contract awarded for booster pumper station

Council here accepted the recommendation of Gamsby and Mannerow to award the contract for construction of the Hillsburgh Booster Pumping Station to  to Baseline Constructors Inc. in the estimated amount of $729,000 plus HST.

Also at the Aug. 13 meeting, council authorized a transfer of funds from reserves up to $138,937 to cover costs over the Rural Infrastructure Investment Initiative amount.

In his report to council water superintendent Frank Smedley noted the town had submitted a funding proposal to the province for a booster pumping station and connecting water main under the Rural Infrastructure Initiative.

“We were successful in acquiring $995,010 for this booster pumping station and connection water main. The water main was completed in 2010 and the pumping station is scheduled to be constructed before June 2014.”

The project would be paid for through $741,830 of Rural Infrastructure Investment Initiative funds and $138,937 from Life Cycle Reserves.

Smedley said this pumping station fits into the short and long term plan to bring uninterrupted safe drinking water to Hillsburgh.

He added the booster pumping station is designed to be expanded to service future requirements.

In addition, this pumping station has been designed to be expanded to become the replacement pump house for Hillsburgh Well No. 3 which was constructed in 1961 and is now nearing the end of its life-cycle.

He added the mobile emergency generator can be used to supply electrical power to any of the four Erin well houses as well as this booster pumping station.
