Food Bank event a huge success

The East Wellington Community Services (EWCS) Food Bank program Stuff the Bus event that took place at the Spirit in the Hills Family Fun Day was a huge success, raising over $400 in donations and more than 300 pounds of food was collected.

The weather was absolutely perfect – sunny with no clouds in the sky – and many families came out in support of the event sponsored by the Let’s Get Hillsburgh Growing committee. The event was a way for the community to learn more about EWCS, its programs and services, and also to learn about the food bank program.

“The community spirit was just contagious. From the children’s games, to the great food treats offered by different vendors and the classic car show and just many things in-between – it was a great way to connect with the local community, support the food bank and have a lot of fun all at the same time,” said Erika Westcott, manager community services and volunteers with EWCS.

Also on Aug. 17, the County of Wellington Solid Waste Services hosted their annual recycling event at Centre 2000 in Erin.

As a result, many garages and closets have a lot of extra space this week after residents brought electronic items to be recycled with the event raising over $75 in donations and more than 100 pounds of food was collected.

“Thank you to everyone who participated in these events and helped the food bank. EWCS couldn’t support the many families and individuals who rely on this program,” EWCS officials state.
