Five industrial land sales are in progress in Minto, with one sale in the Harriston Industrial park set to be announced in early August.
The minutes of the July 9 economic development and planning committee meeting, approved by Minto council on July 16, noted the sales are in the works for industrial parks in Palmerston and Harriston.
The minutes state the purchaser of one of the Harrison lots will be announced at the Aug. 6 council meeting and “will be a unique tenant for the park.”
Facade improvements
Facade improvement grants for two local businesses were approved by council here at the July 16 meeting. Since 2009, the municipality has made $12,000 available through a Facade Improvement Grant Program for commercial businesses in designated community improvement areas. Recipients must follow guidelines to ensure improvements are appropriate and tie in with the look of the downtown.
One of the applications approved will provide $1,998 for the replacement of two display windows for the Wylie Rentals/Minto Computers building on Elora Street in Harriston.
A grant of $3,000, the maximum under the program, was approved for a storefront facelift on the Brown Insurance building on Palmerston’s Main Street was also approved.
In a report to council, business and economic development coordinator Mandy Jones noted four facade improvement grants have been allocated so far in 2013, utilizing approximately half the available funds.
