Although there’s been a bit of a delay, the accessible playground in Stait Park should officially open this summer.
Reports provided to council indicate fencing should be in place shortly and the project should be completed within a few weeks.
During the July 15 council session, councillor Walt Visser passed around photos to update council on the park progress.
He anticipated the park being completed later this month.
Visser pointed to the work and fundraising by local residents and volunteers to make the park a reality.
Though Centre Wellington is involved to a degree, Visser said “this is really a citizens’ effort, and a citizen’s dream was brought into reality. I think this is a great thing.”
CAO Andy Goldie said the current plan is a mid- to late-August grand opening of the park.
“They are pouring the rubber (base) as we speak,” said Goldie. He estimated work should be complete in the next week or two.
To anyone looking at the base right now, it appears black, he said.
“That will not be the end colour, it is just part of the layering system.”
