Every weekend in Wellington County is busy; however this weekend is exceptionally busy.
The annual Fergus Truck Show, along with the Hillside Festival at Guelph Lake and the Tiger Cat game will all be taking place.
Wellington County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) would like to remind residents and visitors to the County to be safe and responsible whether it is at home, on highways, waterways, trails or parks.
Sometimes things are beyond our control, but everybody’s goal should be to lessen the chance of things going wrong. The OPP would like to remind everyone to use common sense and obey safety rules. We all want to create lasting memories of fun times had.
Wellington County OPP will be proactive this weekend with R.I.D.E. programs, and extra patrols on the highways and waterways. A few simple rules to follow to make a safe weekend are to:
Take your time when travelling to a destination and be courteous to fellow travelers.
Do not text while driving and wear the seatbelts.
Impaired Driving by alcohol or drugs puts us all at risk; don’t do it.
On the waterways, wear personal floatation devices (PFD) and have an emergency kit.
If you are on one of the many beautiful trails or in a park; let someone know where you are going, if possible carry a cell phone, and bring water.
The OPP will be looking for a partnership with every motorist, boater, and trail user to be safe and enjoy the weekend.
