An upcoming fund raising event will help the Minto fire department launch a Confined Space Rescue team in the near future.
“Minto Fire is dedicated to serving the community with a high standard of emergency response to ensure a safe environment for our residents. Last year our Master Fire Plan identified confined space rescue as a service that should be in our repertoire of services provided,” states a press release from Minto Fire Chief Chris Harow.
Harrow notes the goal for this year is to begin the necessary training and purchase the necessary equipment in order to get a Confined Space Rescue team off the ground.
Harriston Motors has taken the initiative to help offset the cost of this endeavor by hosting an event with all proceeds going to the establishing of a Confined Space Rescue team.
Confined Space rescue involves any space not designed for humans, usually containing some form of toxic or hazardous gases. This can include many bins and areas around the agricultural sector and industrial sites, Minto Fire explains. A rescue in these areas could include lowering or having a fire fighter enter the area and making it safe by monitoring and venting the harmful gases. All of this takes a great deal of training and equipment to perform. Minto Fire is looking forward to beginning the training process, department officials state.
Minto Fire and Harriston Motors will be hosting their first annual “Touch a Truck” event on Aug. 24 at Harriston Motors Inc. All proceeds from this event will go directly to this goal.
Organizers are looking for Touch a Truck vehicle exhibitors to display “big and small mighty machines” at the event, which everyone is encouraged to attend.
Donation to the establishment of the CSR team may be made at Harriston Motors Inc. Tax receipts will be issued.

“Together, we can make this team a reality and help make Minto an even safer place,” organizers state.
