Council here has approved a zoning bylaw amendment that will allow the expansion of an existing farm equipment repair shop on White’s Road.
At a June 18 public meeting on the proposed amendment, Wellington County planner Mark Van Patter explained the applicant, George Weber, plans to expand the tractor and farm equipment repair shop at 9134 White’s Road.
The shop, currently about 1,500 square foot, could expand to up to 8,000 square feet under the zoning change. The move requires the farm-building cluster on the property be rezoned from agriculture to agriculture commercial.
Van Patter said the purpose and effect of the amendment is to “recognize the existing farm equipment repair business,” which Weber has operated for about five years, and allow for construction of the new shop.
“It is my feeling this proposal can be considered to be small scale,” said Van Patter, who recommended that outside storage not be permitted except for client tractors and equipment kept on site temporarily while being repaired. He also recommended permitted uses under the commercial zoning be limited to tractor and equipment repair and accessory uses, including the existing detached dwelling.
No members of the public spoke in favor of or in opposition to the proposal at the public meeting. Council passed a bylaw approving the amendment during the regular council session on June 18.
