Hillsburgh Foodland is teaming up with Hillsburgh firefighters for a food drive event on June 15 from 11am to 2:30pm.
"It is an especially difficult time of the year for the food bank,” says East Wellington Community Services manager of community and volunteer services Erika Westcott.
“With the school term ending and many families looking forward to the summer holiday, donations of needed items tend to slow down. Sadly, there is no summer vacation for those relying on this service and we really struggle to meet the needs of those in our community.”
Hillsburgh Foodland store owner Mary McArthur added “We wanted to do something to help our food bank and something that would draw attention to the food needs of so many of our neighbours in our community. Working with the fire fighters was a natural fit – and we are so excited to be hosting this event at such a critical time of year for the food bank.”
The Erin Food Bank has distributed 14,009 pounds of food since January of this year – that is a lot of people in need in our community.
To bring food donations or to purchase a bag of items already assembled with items needed for the food bank, donors are invited to come to Hillsburgh Foodland, located at 102 Trafalgar Road. Volunteers from EWCS will be on hand to collect the food and answer any questions you may have about the program.

Items most needed at the food bank include: peanut butter, jam, soups, cereal and granola bars, Kraft dinner, shampoo, conditioner, bodywash, soap, beans in sauce (tomato or molasses), canned pasta/stew, canned fruit, rice, crackers/cookies, pudding and fruit cups, Hamburger Helper, and canned vegetables.
