Guelph Lake Triathlon this weekend

The World’s largest Triathlon Series will be coming to Guelph Lake Conservation Area in Guelph on June 15 and June 16.

The Subaru Triathlon Series third event of the 2013 season will have over 1700 athletes participating at Guelph Lake on the race weekend. This will be the second triathlon hosted in open water this year.

The Guelph Lake Triathlon is Ontario’s premier event due to the venue and surrounding area and Canada’s largest triathlon race weekend. Athletes from across Ontario will be racing in the three events hosted on the weekend.

The first event Saturday scheduled for 10am is the Try-a-Tri event.

The Try-a-Tri consists of a 375m swim, 10km bike and 2.5 km run; this event is geared to the beginner athlete.

The Sprint Triathlon consists of a 750m swim, 20km bike and 5km run will start at 1pm.

For those athletes who chose not to swim a Duathlon is also offered, consisting of a 2km run, 20km bike and 5km run.

On Sunday the Olympic distance will start at 8:50 and consist of a 1.5km swim, 40km bike and 10km run. The Duathlon replaces the swim with a 2km run.

The athletes will be using local roads north of Guelph Lake Conservation area for the biking and running segments of the events.
