For those that have ever wondered about moths, the close cousins of butterflies, The Arboretum, University of Guelph is presenting a Mysterious World of Moths workshop on June 17 from 9am – 4pm.
The workshop will start off with an introduction to the “moth world” and what makes a moth so unique. Then participants will be led through the families or groups of moths that are commonly encountered in our area.
There will also be some exploring outside to look for roosting moths, day-flying moths and moth caterpillars. Participants will learn how to identify, find and appreciate the beautiful moths that are all around us.
The workshop will be led by guest instructor, Andalyne Tofflemire.
The registration fee is $75 plus HST per person and the deadline for registration is June 10.

On June 17, The Arboretum presents the Medicinal Plants Workshop.
Naturopathic doctor, Elizabeth Cherevaty ND, will offer a guided tour through the Arboretum woods, meadows and Gosling Gardens.
Herbs to be covered include: motherwort, mayapple, blue cohosh, bloodroot, red raspberry, Joe Pye weed, hawthorn, black walnut, Solomon’s seal, plantain, wild ginger, horsetail, burdock, St. John’s wort and goldenrod.
The workshop will conclude at the Taylor Centre with a brief introduction to herbal medicine; participants should bring their questions. Each participant will receive a colour booklet covering the plants surveyed.
Participants should note the course is not intended to provide instruction in harvesting or preparation of medicinal plants.
