The Centre Wellington District High School (CWDHS) social justice class is hosting a buffet-style dinner and evening of entertainment on May 22 to raise funds for Raising the Roof.
The Canadian charity has a mission is to: “provide strong and effective national leadership on long-term solutions to homelessness through partnership and collaboration with diverse stakeholders, investment in local communities, and public education.”
The May 22 CWDHS event will feature an array of silent auction items, including original artwork from art teacher John Mahnic.
A particularly meaningful addition to the auction is a full size, handmade quilt designed and sewn by the CWDHS Ladies Sewing Group. This piece of art is the result of four months of labour, using recycled materials in the traditional spirit of quilting as community-building. Final edging stitching was completed by the students in the social justice class.
The public is welcome to bid on silent auction items from 9am to 3pm as of May 16 (reminder: check in to the office first). The items will be on display in the school library.
Tickets for the May 22 event are $10 and will be available at the door or from social justice students. Doors open at 5:30pm. Dinner will be served at 6pm.
Any canned food contributions for the Centre Wellington Food Bank would be warmly received.

Raising the Roof envisions that “all members of Canadian society have access to a safe and stable home, together with the supports they need to achieve their potential.”
Raising the Roof views the growing reality of youth homelessness as a particularly important issue. All individuals have potential, particularly young people. “Making the invisible visible” is part of their education and awareness platform.
