They call it Chase the Tornado and it hits Grand Valley on May 26.
The third annual 10K event will be following the same path as the tornado that cut through Grand Valley 26 years ago. The course follows a scenic route that crosses the Grand River four times via three different bridges.
This year Run Dufferin has partnered with Upper Grand Trailway Association (UGTA) who will act as principal charity.
UGTA is a non-profit organization dedicated to the preservation of the trailway’s history and natural environment for the betterment of the community of Grand Valley and surrounding area.
Well-marked and accurate, this 10K circuit is designed for runners. A 5K walk was added last year to make it a family affair.
The kids’ fun run kicks off at 9:30am. Runners and walkers start at 10am.
The entry fee is $40 ($50 on race day) for the 10K run and 5K walk.
Awards will be given to male and female runners in 10-year increments.
Race shirts are provided for all runners and walkers.
Draw prizes will also be awarded.
The kids’ fun run is sponsored by Royal Lepage Orangeville.
The event is free and each child gets a ribbon and a prize, as well as a drink and snack.
Registration details are available online at ChasetheTornado.com or at Running Free, 88 First St. in Orangeville.
Following the race, a barbecue will be provided, sponsored by the Grand Valley Lion Club.
The event is presented by Run Dufferin, a community running group.
Proceeds support getting youth active through running and local trails.
