Hosdil to be recognized next month

Guelph-Eramosa councillors had no trouble waiving a hall rental fee for a party recognizing the contributions of longtime Rockwood physician Dr. Jane Hosdil.

“Dr. Hosdil can have anything she wants. The woman is a saint,” said councillor Doug Breen at the April 15 council meeting.

The request to have the fee at the Rockmosa hall waived actually came from an official at the East Wellington Family Health Team, for which Hosdil has worked for a number of years.

“This is a very, very good thing,” Mayor Chris White said in response to the request.

Council unanimously approved waiving the hall rental fee for the “community farewell” celebration at Rockmosa  on May 31 from 5 to 7pm.

Hosdil has served residents in and around Guelph-Eramosa Township for 43 years, with a patient roster that once numbered upwards of 2,300.

“She was the only doctor in Rockwood for a long time,” White told the Advertiser last summer when Hosdil was recognized with a Queen’s Diamond Jubilee Medal for her work.

“Because she stuck it out, doctors looking to come here had somebody to talk to.”

White added at the time that Hosdil was “pivotal” in the development of the new medical centre in Rockwood, which opened in early 2010.

Hosdil noted last summer that the new clinic has allowed her to scale back her hours, but still stay involved in Rockwood.

“Everybody has become special to me … so it’s hard to walk away,” she said last summer.
