FMC candidate

Centre Wellington Mayor Joanne Ross-Zuj will again stand for election to the Federation of Canadian Municipalities (FCM) board.

Ross-Zuj was endorsed by Wellington County council which threw its support behind her candidacy at its meeting March 28.

She sits on the FCM board of directors and is seeking re-election at the organization’s annual conference at the end of May.  The FCM lobbies issues raised by municipalities at the national level with the federal government and is being credited with the federal government’s recent announcement to extend federal infrastructure funding for a 10-year period.

Warden Chris White, who sits as a board member on the Association of Municipalities of Ontario (AMO) along with county councillor John Green, said it is essential the county has representation at the provincial and national level.

“The county of Wellington has a voice at the federal and provincial tables,” White said.

“That’s very important. The payback is multiple. It would be irresponsible not being at those tables.”

The county covers Ross-Zuj’s costs connected with her work FCM work. Ross-Zuj said the work generally involves three trips each year.
