Arnott again cites need for bypass

On March 26, Wellington-Halton Hills MPP Ted Arnott once again stood in the Ontario Legislature and called upon the minister of transportation to put the Highway 6 Morriston bypass on the MTO’s five-year plan for highway construction.

“Our community has been waiting for more than 30 years for this project to move forward,” Arnott told the Legislature. “In fact, the need for a bypass around Morriston was first identified in the late 1970s. A number of environmental studies were done, but the project itself moved at a snail’s pace. Meanwhile, the traffic problems continued to get worse.”

Arnott has argued the project will have clear economic benefits for all of southern Ontario.

“Highway 6 is an important economic corridor linking the 401 to the US border. In 2006 the minister of transportation said that this stretch of highway accounts for 12% of the province’s truck traffic,” said Arnott. He also praised the residents of the Puslinch, led by councillors and staff, for their leadership and hard work.

“I want to continue to do whatever I can to support their efforts and I once again urge the minister of transportation to listen to my constituents and to put this needed project on to his ministry’s five-year plan,” Arnott concluded.
