Ringette team heads to Halifax on April 10

The Elora Fergus  Edge U-14 ‘AA’ team  is heading to the Eastern Canadian Ringette Championships in Halifax, Nova Scotia from April 10 to 14.

The trip marks the culmination of a successful season,  during which the team finished as one of the top three teams in the province, including four top-four tournament finishes.

In Halifax, the team will be competing against the top ringette teams from Ontario, Quebec, Nova Scotia, New Brunswick and Prince Edward Island.

Only nine teams receiving this coveted invitation – and only two from Ontario.

The team is comprised of 12- and 13-year-old girls primarily from Elora and Fergus.  Most of the team’s players have participated in ringette in Centre Wellington from as young as four and five years old.

As the players prepare for the pinnacle event of their ringette experience, they continue to train and practice with regularity. To help offset some of the expenses the team will encounter, several fundraising events are planned for this weekend.

On March 23, during the regional year-end tournament, a breakfast fundraiser will take place from 7 to 11am on the Pad A Mezzanine of the Centre Wellington Community Sportsplex in Fergus.

A bottle drive will take place on March 23 in neighbourhoods throughout Fergus. Those with empty bottles to donate can contact Janice McIntosh at  519-846-5025 or bjmcintosh@yourlink.ca. Bottles can also be dropped off at Geo Solar, 640 Gartshore Street in Fergus.

On April 5, the Jeff West Hypnotist Show will take place at the Elora Legion. Admission is $20. This is a family-friendly event starting at 8:30pm (doors open at 8pm). There will be a cash bar, raffle prizes and a silent auction. Tickets are available now at www.jeffwest.ca.

The Elora Fergus Ringette Association is co-hosting with the Guelph Ringette Association the regional year-end tournament this weekend, March 22 to 24. There are approximately 50 teams participating in the tournament from across western Ontario.
