Even though Strada is no longer interested in expanding its gravel pit near Hillsburgh, it is interested in a proposal to donate land for use as a conservation or recreation area.
Mayor Lou Maieron said that a few meetings back, Strada Aggregates Inc. had discussed a potential pit expansion on the 8th Line.
Maieron said recent correspondence from Strada indicated that while the company was no longer interested in pursuing a property acquisition to expand extraction of the 30 acre site, the company remains interested in investigating the possibility of a land donation to either Credit Valley Conservation or the Town of Erin.
“On a revenue side it may not be a good thing (losing the aggregate levy), but for the 8th Line residents, I am sure they are happy since there won’t be additional years of truck traffic,” said Maieron.
He added Strada remains interested in the idea, which he called “sort of a good News-good News story.”
