Breast cancer is a serious issue says Erin Mayor Lou Maieron.
At a recent council session he wore a pink tie over a pink shirt to bring the message home.
“Just to make you aware, pink on pink is not just the colour for anti-bullying, it is also to make people aware of breast cancer awareness month and those who have suffered.”
Maieron noted that women in his own family have suffered that “… and even the mayor had to have a mamogram at one time because they thought I might have it.”
Maieron added “men do die from breast cancer, it’s not funny.”
He said the nurses he dealt with were quite encouraging and told by them that men who do not get checked are at greater risk because once the cancer is discovered, the disease has progressed too far.
