St. Andrew’s Presbyterian Church H.E.A.R.T.S group is hosting the annual Race for the Children of Haiti on Oct. 20.
What began in the mid 1980s as the Pipeline of Hope, through which relief supplies were shipped to the poorest of the poor in the western hemisphere, developed into St. Andrew’s H.E.A.R.T.S, an organization that has helped build a church, build and staff an elementary school, trade school and an orphanage, and has established a feed program that continues to provide nourishment to Haitian children today.
The efforts of H.E.A.R.T.S impact the lives of over 700 children by sending funds to help cover the cost of educational programs and teachers’ salaries at four church-based schools in and around Cap Haitien, Haiti.
Funding is also sent each month in support of a feed program for 36 children at Stella House Orphanage.
The 5km Race for the Children of Haiti Fun Run/Walk begins at 9:30am at the rear of James McQueen Public School on Hill Street. Runners will be timed.
A free brunch will follow. There will be prizes and rewards for participants.
Registration begins at 8am on race day at the church, located at 325 St. George Street West.
