The annual tradition of family-friendly fun and spooktacluar monster creations has returned to the landscape of the village in the yard of the Elora Centre for the Arts.
The monsters are why fine artist Tim Murton has been dubbed “the Monster Guy.”
Murton started the Twilight Zoo in 1996 as Halloween decorations for the community.
Featured on Martha Stewart’s “Halloween Special” in 2011, these wire and paper sculptures have become a regular part of the Elora landscape every fall.
Murton adds to the Zoo collection every year with the help of a dedicated group of volunteers and as the menagerie grows so does the number of people visiting to see them.
This year, the Twilight Zoo opened Oct. 6 and runs until Oct. 31 on the ground of Elora Centre for the Arts at 75 Mellville Street.
The Twilight Zoo is open from 9am to 5pm, Monday to Thursday. Friday and Saturday it is open 12pm to 10pm and Sunday from 12pm to 4pm.
Admission is $5 per person, free for kids 4 and under, groups discount of five or more for $20. Cash only.
Adding to the excitment for one weekend is the Elora Halloween Scare Fair, including the Haunted House Graveyard, maze, puppet shows, games and vendors.
The ScareFair will open Oct. 19, with an opening ceremony from 6pm to 10pm, including special guest ventriloquist Tim Holland. Zoltan the fire-eater will appear Oct. 20 and Oct. 21. The ScareFair runs from noon until 10pm.
The Elora Monster March Parade, a free and non-motorized event, will also take place on Oct. 20, beginning at 6:30pm at MacDonald Square. Monsters of all ages are welcome to join in the march that leads from town hall down Metcalfe Street, along Mill Street to the Elora Centre for the Arts. For more information visit www.scarefair.ca.
