Sunrise Hoofbeat Challenge raises $25,000

The Annual Sunrise Hoofbeat Challenge and Family Day took place on Sept. 29.

The day began with dog walkers and hikers taking to the trails with the horse riders following, led by the mounted unit of the Wellington County OPP. The trails wound over four encompassing farms as well as the Sunrise farm.

The public joined in the  Family Day festivities with children’s activities and various games, free horse drawn wagon rides and opportunities  to meet the animals.

A dog agility demonstration put on by Diamonds in the Ruff was a crowd pleaser.

Popular children’s entertainer, Erick Traplin, took to the stage and entertained everyone with his singing and trademark ‘bubble machine’.

The ‘Teddy Bear’ picnic winners were judged by Lisa Richards and Dave Hanna of Magic FM & CJOY in Guelph.  Prizes were presented to the winners by Ronald McDonald who made a special guest appearance.

Throughout the day people were able to bid on a variety of silent auction items, purchase home-baking, produce, door prizes and raffle tickets and more.

Sunrise Therapeutic Riding and Learning Centre is a place for children and adults with special needs to learn about horses in a farm environment, with dedicated staff assisting  those with special needs to reach their full potential giving them the tools and support to play a meaningful role in their community.

The one-day family event raised $25,000 for the Sunrise children’s programs.
