Terry Fox runs set for Sept. 16

Sunday, Sept. 16 has been set for several Terry Fox Runs across the county.

The date will see hundreds of thousands of people across the province participate in the fundraising event now considered an autumn Canadian tradition. In 2011, Ontarians participated in one of the 225 community Terry Fox Runs and raised $12 million.

To date the Terry Fox Foundation has raised over $600 million in memory of Terry Fox who started his cross country run in 1980 to raise money for cancer research and had to cut his effort after 143 days when cancer returned and would eventually claim his life.

The run in Arthur is set to start from the Optimist Pavilion with registration starting at 12:30pm and the run starting at 1:30pm.

In Drayton the run starts at the old arena at the fairgrounds. Registration is at 12:30pm with the run set to start at 1:30pm.

In Erin, the event is from 9am to 12:30pm starting from Centre 2000.

In Rockwood, the event begins at Waterside Park and runs from noon to 2pm.

In Guelph, the run starts at 8am at Silvercreek Park (corner of Wellington Street and Edinburgh Road) and continues to 12:30pm.
