Trees beat the heat

Trees have a moderating effect on temperature extremes which can be a great benefit to the home or farm. This is the time of year to start making planting plans.

If you own a property within the Grand River watershed that is greater than 1 hectare (2.5 acres) and you would like to plant trees next spring, the Grand River Conservation Authority (GRCA) can help.  Forestry staff will visit your property to help match trees to your soil and site conditions, come up with a planting plan that meets your objectives, provide access to funding programs to lower the costs, and provide trees and planting services.

Every year landowners take advantage of the GRCA’s tree planting program by establishing windbreaks, shelterbelts, wildlife corridors, buffers along streams, large block plantings, and living snow fences. About 75 to 80 per cent of the costs are often covered by cost-share programs, such as, Trees Ontario and the Rural Water Quality Program.
