The sixth annual Mustang Show hosted by Leslie Motors drew about 80 entries of various vintage, as owners came to Harriston, Aug. 11, to show off their favourite pony cars.
“It went extra well, given the day,” said Ron Leslie, noting that the wet weather no doubt deterred some potential participants.
The show has been growing in scale since its inception, with about 175 vehicles on display at the 2011 event.
The show rotates between Leslie Motors’ Ford dealerships in Harriston, Wingham and Walkerton.
For this year’s show, the Minto Chamber of Commerce arranged to have a portion of the downtown area closed to traffic to allow the Mustangs to be displayed along Elora Street.
Local merchants were encouraged to take advantage of the extra foot traffic with specials and sidewalk sales. The chamber also arranged for a band to provide street music for the event.
“I think the businesses were pretty happy with it,” notes Leslie, adding that each driver received a certificate for a meal at a local restaurant, courtesy of the dealership.
The “People’s Choice” award for the day went to Tony Lang of Walkerton, who displayed a ’68 Shelby GT, one of only 318 convertibles made that year, and one of only two with white tops.
