A trial date has been set in the case of OPP Sergeant Roger Woods who faces a charge of careless driving in connection with a Nov. 14 crash on Sligo Road in Mount Forest.
The trial is expected to last five days starting Dec. 10, it was decided by lawyers and a judge at a hearing July 25 at the Carden Street courthouse. Woods was not present at the hearing.
The charge stems from a collision between a vehicle and Mennonite buggy that took place in the early morning of Nov. 14.
The Mennonite man, Onias Frey, was seriously injured in the crash after his horse and buggy were allegedly struck from behind. Frey sustained serious injuries including broken ribs and collarbone, torn spleen, collapsed lungs and bleeding in the brain.
He continues to recover from the injuries. The horse was killed.
Woods was off-duty at the time of the crash.
He was charged with careless driving three months after the crash. OPP released the name after repeated requests from the Advertiser.
