Beginning July 22, the public can help support The Sunshine Foundation of Canada by making a donation at any of the more than 620 LCBO stores throughout Ontario.
Proceeds from this campaign will help to fulfill the dreams of children living with severe physical disabilities or life-threatening illnesses.
“The support and generosity shown to us by LCBO, its employees and especially its customers allows the Sunshine Foundation to create lifetime memories for kids whose days are often filled with medical appointments, tests and treatments,” says Nancy Sutherland, national executive director of the foundation.
“The support of LCBO’s province-wide store network provides a unique opportunity to raise public awareness and funds to carry out the important work we do,” Sutherland added.
Since it was established in 1987, the foundation has fulfilled more than 7,000 dreams for Canadian children.
Three-year-old Sienna, whose face will adorn the coin boxes throughout the campaign, is challenged daily by a rare medical condition and dreamed of taking a Disney Cruise with her family.
Following her trip, Sienna’s mom wrote to Sunshine Foundation: “Our family is indebted to the kindness of the Sunshine Foundation for allowing Sienna to believe – believe in the magic. Oh, and we can’t forget all the pixie dust that came back with us.”
The Sunshine Foundation of Canada is one of 28 provincial, as well as numerous local charities, that will benefit from LCBO’s province-wide donation box program in 2012.
In 2011, LCBO raised a total of more than $6.2 million for charities through specialprograms and initiatives, of which $5.7 million was raised through in-store fundraising.
“LCBO is pleased to partner with The Sunshine Foundation of Canada and provide support to a variety of worthy causes,” says LCBO president & CEO Bob Peter. “Generous LCBO customers and staff improve the lives of countless Ontarians and help communities throughout the province.”
Donation boxes to support Sunshine Foundation will be displayed at LCBO checkout counters until Aug.18.
