Building activity continues to rise

Building activity continues to climb here with $2,370,000 in permits issued in May.

So far this year the town has seen 78 permits valued at $5,795,000 – compared to $1,712,000 issued for the same  period last year, based on 48 permits issued.

“Our good year is continuing,” chief administrative officer Bill White told council at its June 18 meeting when presenting a report from the chief building official.

The recent figure was only surpassed, value wise, in 2003 when slightly more than $6 million in permits was issued for the same period, and in 2006 when issued permits came in at almost $7 million.

However, so far this year the number of permits is up slightly over a previous high in 2010.

“This is great News,” Mayor George Bridge said.
