The online public consultation for the next edition of the Ontario Fire Code is now underway, according to Ontario Fire Marshal Ted Wieclawek.
Ontarians are urged to visit the public consultation website www.ontario.ca/firemarshal and provide feedback to help guide the development of the next edition of the Ontario Fire Code. There are more than 120 proposed technical changes to the code that require the public’s comment before June 30.
Proposed changes have been collected from a variety of submissions and reflect Ontario’s ongoing participation in a nationally coordinated code development. A separate consultation is currently underway to identify fire safety improvements in residences for seniors, people with disabilities, and other vulnerable Ontarians. As the vulnerable Ontarians consultation is proceeding on a different schedule, technical changes contained in the Ontario Fire Code consultation package do not include proposals dealing with the subject of buildings with vulnerable occupants.
Wieclawek said, “The consultation will help the office of the Fire Marshal reach a broader audience and initiate a dialogue with those who are concerned about fire safety in the province. I urge all Ontarians to participate. The more input we are able to obtain, the better equipped we will be to address Ontario’s public fire safety needs.”
