President Alieda Murray welcomed 25 volunteers to the Clifford Community Meals on Wheels volunteer appreciation lunch April 17 at the Knox United Church in Clifford.
Everyone enjoyed a meal of roast beef, ham, mashed potatoes, carrots, green beans, and pie prepared and served by Marion Agla, Jean Ersman, and Marg Shannon.
Restaurant liaison Patrick Mullan said all was going well for the group with the meals prepared by the staff at the Redwood Restaurant and owners Jim and Marlene Dennie enjoy helping the community.
Mullan spoke about Project Lifesaver sponsored by the Alzheimer Society. Police officers receive special training on how to locate and return Alzheimer and dementia patients who may have wandered away from their home and are considered missing.
A tracking device is signals to help find their location, find them, and return them to their home.
Keith Diebel, a former board member, knows what it takes to volunteer to run Meals on Wheels and offered a heartfelt thanks to volunteers on behalf of the clients who have hot nutritious meals delivered three times a week at lunchtime. Eleanore Gerber shared an update of the yard and bake sale to be held the first Saturday of June. Donations of toys, books, games, dishes, novelty items, decorations, Sports equipment, pictures, and other good would be much appreciated. The items can be dropped off at the pavilion between 7am and 1pm on the day of the sale.
The items that are not purchased will be donated elsewhere with clean up time beginning at 4pm the next day. Eleanore and Wes Gerber are able to store a few items in their shed, but prefer them the day of the sale at the park. For more information, give them a call at 519-327-8550.
They already have a couple exercise bikes and puzzles and some miscellaneous items ready for the sale. Food is being prepared to sell that day as well. They hope to have some people offer to bake some homemade goodies for the bake sale. Cookies, bread, tarts, cakes, pies, loaves, crispy rice treats, squares, and fudge always seem to sell out fast.
Everyone was given a Johnny-jump-up in a colourful container as a thank you, along with a note of thanks that compared their volunteer time, talents, and enthusiasm to the cheery little flower.
