The Guelph GoGo Grandmothers are holding a luncheon April 28, 11am to 3pm at the Dublin St. Church auditorium.
The group is hoping to raise funds for The Stephen Lewis Foundation.
This time, the 4Gs, as they refer to themselves, are calling the luncheon and silent auction, Hats Off for African Grandmothers and it is hoping that many attendees will wear “creative” or “outrageous” or just plain “beautiful” spring hats for the Crazy Hat competition.
The Crazy Hat competition criteria are: Find a hat; decorate it; enter the competition for the most elegant, outrageous, or creative hat.
The 4Gs accept all hats and fascinators.
Judges are from the stores in Guelph and will also include the new conductor of The Guelph Symphony Orchestra, Judith Yan.
In addition, merchants of Guelph have been generous for the silent auction with meal donations of $50, discounted items in many shops, discounts in restaurants and other goods. There will be many baskets of gift-giving products.
The luncheon will feature an African recipe as well as a regular Guelph menu. Hilary Bowers-Walsh will be the guest speaker for foundation.
She was one of the Canadian grandmothers who went last May to Africa with the foundation and met with groups of grandmothers in various countries supported by the Foundation.
