One of Erin’s own was recognized recently for her efforts in greening local schools.
Kathryn Cooper, of Hillsburgh, has worked to increase environmental awareness in the community, developing an environmental club at Ross R. MacKay Public School and greening local school grounds.
On March 23, Credit Valley Conservation presented Cooper with a Conservation Award as part of the Friends of the Credit Conservation Awards.
In total CVC presented 36 awards in four categories at the annual awards ceremony, held at the Mississauga Grand Banquet and Convention Centre. Cooper is a founding organizer of the Climate Change Action Group of Erin and key organizer for the Growing Green Smart Kids Program that promotes environmental literacy in youth.
She worked enthusiastically with schools in the Town of Erin to promote environmental awareness with students and teachers. In 2007, Kathryn organized the Environmental Club at Ross R. Mackay Public School in Hillsburgh that was instrumental in greening the schoolyard. Kathryn’s passion for the environment led her to run for Trustee for the Upper Grand District School Board in 2010. For more than 20 years, CVC has presented awards to individuals, landowners, community groups, small businesses, corporations, municipalities and agencies that have made a significant contribution to managing natural resources in the Credit River Watershed.
Through these awards, CVC’s Board of Directors celebrate important work done across the watershed to help ensure its long-term environmental health.
