A Wellington North resident who launched an Ontario Municipal Board (OMB) appeal that overturned the township’s development charge bylaw last year has requested a list of refunds made by the township to developers.
Jens Dam made the request at council Monday night. Dam also requested the township release the number of building permits issued in 2011 and the total in development fees collected.
Looking to stimulate building activity last year, council adopted a new development charge bylaw that effectively reduced the development charge from $17,000 to $10,000 for single family houses. The move was intended to replace the previous property development bylaw, but was challenged by Dam at the OMB.
He said at the time council had not followed proper procedures needed to bring in a new bylaw. His challenge was supported at the OMB and council was forced to rescind the bylaw and bring back the $17,000 fee.
Rescinding the second bylaw was officially announced by the township in early November.
At the time Mayor Ray Tout said council would follow the proper procedures to bring in a new development charge with the lower fee.
Mayor Tout said the information requested by Dam on Monday will be forwarded to him within 30 days.
