The total cost for Centre Wellington council in 2011 was $164,380 (all figures rounded off).
Mayor Joanne Ross-Zuj received a salary of $25,800. She was also paid $4,475 to attend committee meetings, and the mayor is a member of all committees. Her expenses were $3,200, for a grand total of $33,490.
Each councillor received a salary of $17,200. They, too, are each paid extra for meetings and other expenses which can include mileage and conferences. Their total costs, their committee meeting pay and expenses are:
– Walt Visser (acting mayor in Ross-Zuj’s absence) $25,280 total, with meeting pay at $4,490, and expenses of $3,590;
– Mary Lloyd, $23,270, $2,375 for meetings and $3,690 in expenses;
– Fred Morris, $21,910, $1,480 and $3,230;
– Kirk McElwain, $21,600, $2,690 and $1,710 in expenses;
– Steve Vanleeuwen, $19,560, $1,240 for committees and $1,115; and
– Kelly Linton, $19,270 total, $1,365 for meetings and $700 for expenses.
Committee pay
Council also pays several of its committees.
On the committee of adjustment, the total cost was $1,980 and it is paid for meetings attended:
– $420 each to Alex (Sandy) Cleghorn, Cor Bultena and Pat Drimmie;
– $300 to John Gamble and Kathy Baranski; and
– $120 to Pierre Chauvin.
On the heritage committee, the total expenses for workshops and seminars was $1,010. The expenses were:
– $480 for Baranski;
– 250 each to Eleanor Smith and Don Fraser; and
– $30 to Graeme Chalmers.
There was no pay or expenses for those sitting on the Victoria Park Seniors Centre committee.
The total cost for committees amounted to $2,990.
Ross-Zuj received pay of $5,200 for sitting on the Centre Wellington Hydro board. She also had expenses of $3,425 for a total of $8,620.
Ross-Zuj, Lloyd and Morris also sit on the Groves Memorial Hospital Board. They do not receive any pay for those duties and claimed no expenses.
Ross-Zuj was paid $1,980 for sitting on the board of the Grand River Conservation Authority. She had $960 in expenses there.
