Chong decries dirty trick tactics during election

Wellington Halton Hills MP Michael Chong has decried the dirty tricks that took place in the federal election on May 2.

He stated that on March 1 in the House of Commons:

“Recently, allegations about electoral misconduct that took place in the federal riding of Guelph during last May’s election have generated a great deal of concern from Canadians,” he said. “As a Conservative Member of Parliament for Wellington County, whose county seat is in Guelph, I condemn, in the strongest terms, such reprehensible activity.”

Chong indicated anyone involved must pay the price.

“The individual or individuals responsible for such activity should be prosecuted to the full extent of the law,” he said. “That’s why I call upon Elections Canada and the RCMP to expeditiously conduct and conclude their investigation so that those responsible are held accountable.

He concluded, “Mr. Speaker, the kind of subversion alleged in Guelph has no place in a first world democracy like Canada.”
