Councillors here had little to say Feb. 1 about the Cambridge official plan review.
While Puslinch straddles the border of that city and is interested in what happens to its neighbours, they felt a recent report provided little useful information to councillors here.
Correspondence from Paul Smithson, a senior policy planner for Cambridge, stated that in the past, Puslinch had expressed interest in the city’s review. He noted about 80 people made comments on the draft official plan last year, with staff working on a report to be dealt with at a special city committee later this month.
Smithson said that report should be online effective Feb. 3 at www.cambridge.ca/official plan.
The plan affects all land within Cambridge. It provides a vision for future growth and generally guides where new homes, schools, businesses and parks should be located.
The plan includes policies with respect to the construction of new services such as roads and sewers as well as protecting the environment.
The city is in the process of updating its 1999 official plan to ensure it reflects, evolves, improves and realizes the city’s full potential.
Mayor Dennis Lever said councillor Wayne Stokley had asked about the issue a few meetings ago.
Lever had looked online for the new plan prior to the Feb. 1 Puslinch council meeting, but had not located it.
Lever said the official plan is something Wellington County will be looking into as well.
The website did include a document Lever hopes the city would continue work on – a detailed list of policies that were added or deleted.
“That way you wouldn’t have to have the old and new plans side by side to compare.”
