If January is any indication, the town could see strong building activity in 2012.
“The numbers look good for January compared to last year,” chief building official Terry Kuipers told council.
His report Feb. 7 showed it far outstripped the same month in 2011. He issued seven building permits in January valued at $473,000, including one for a single family dwelling valued at $180,000, and two agricultural permits valued at 165,000.
Last year the town issued a permit valued at $3,000.
Insurance renewal
Council will likely renew its insurance agreement with Frank Cowan Company Ltd. after getting its renewal policy.
The new policy comes in at $238,174 plus tax, down from its 2011 at $241,292 plus tax.
Propane plan
Minto Fire Chief Chris Harrow said the town will proceed with approval of a risk and safety management plan for North Wellington Co-op in Harriston.
Harrow said the plan considers the “worst case scenario” should a fire break out and an evacuation is needed.
