It’s only a matter of time before winter and winter road conditions arrive.
Minto council has made some slight revisions to its inclement weather and council meetings policy as well as its winter weather policy and procedures.
For its council policy, the town’s public works director will inspect roads during snowy weather about three hours prior to an evening council meeting that starts at 7pm.
The director will report to the mayor, who will determine if a council meeting should be cancelled.
It the decision is to cancel, councillors, department heads and media will be informed along with Wellington County officials. Delegations scheduled to appear at the meeting will also be notified.
Rescheduling of any cancelled meeting will be posted as soon as possible.
The same procedure will be in place for day meetings that regularly start at 3pm, with inspection times about three hours prior.
In the event of road closures, town staff and fire officials will be notified and town facilities such as community centres, may be opened to accommodate stranded motorists.
The procedure will also ensure food and refreshments are available to anyone seeking shelter due to closed highways. Under extended closures, staff work rotations will be set up at the applicable community centre.
– The number of permits is down, but values are up for building activity so far this year in Minto.
“We’ve got good numbers,” chief administrative officer Bill White told council at its regular meeting on Nov. 15.
A report on building activity up to Oct. 31 shows the town issued 147 permits so far this year compared to 174 for the same period last year.
However, total value of the permits came in at $14,368,000 so far this year, compared to $11,428,000 for 2010 – an increase of 26%.
