Who will be Wellington Countys next Queen of the Furrow

Some people seek out a Field of Dreams, but in this case its more a matter of one good furrow deserves another.

The time is fast approaching for Wellington County to choose its next Queen of the Furrow.

Whether it is a chance to be an agricultural ambassador, a chance to compete, or to represent Wellington County, there are many reasons to consider being a Queen of the Furrow competitor.

“As a Queen of the Furrow you travel throughout Wellington County and sometimes further to attend agricultural events,” said current Queen of the Furrow Cassandra Chornoboy.

“You take part in amazing opportunities and learn to fully appreciate the fantastic county you live in.”

She adds, “As a Queen of the Furrow you attend the Ontario Plowmen’s Association Convention where you meet other Queens from various counties throughout Ontario. You also attend the International Plowing Match (next year’s IPM is in Waterloo County) where you compete to win the title of Ontario Queen of the Furrow.”

To become the Wellington County Queen of the Furrow, competitors must prepare a short speech on an agricultural topic, have a brief interview with three judges, answer an impromptu question and plow at the Wellington County Plowing Match (a plow coach is supplied).

Competitors must also be a female living in Wellington County and between the ages of 16 and 23.

Competitors must also be able to attend the Wellington County Plowing Match on Aug. 18 in Harriston, as well as the Wellington County Plowmens Association Banquet on Oct. 14 in Alma.
