Despite one of the most challenging planting seasons in recent memory, Harvest for Hunger – a unique Canadian Foodgrains Bank soybeans growing project to raise funds to help hungry people in the developing world – is on track.
As of July 12, the soybean crop is knee high. But organizers – who are hoping to set a world record by harvesting 160 acres of soybeans in well under 10 minutes on a farm in Perth County, just west of Wellington County – need somewhere between 100 to 200 combines to set the record.
The project will raise money for the Canadian Foodgrains Bank.
Farmers from across southwestern Ontario are being sought to commit their combines to try for a record by contacting Drenth at 519-327-9504 or at harvest4hunger@hotmail.com.
