Emergency Preparedness Week runs May 1 to 7 this year and it is a good time to get educated about the risks in the community and learn how to “Be Better Prepared” in an emergency.
Emergency preparedness officials with Wellington County suggest everyone should know the hazards in their community. That is the first step to ensuring the safety of everyone in the household.
Is the community susceptible to flooding? Has it ever experienced a tornado?
Prepare a plan. Visit www.getprepared.ca to prepare an emergency home plan.
That will include assembling a 72 hour emergency kit. The first 72 hours of any disaster are critical. Become disaster-resilient.
For information on how to Be Better Prepared
– visit the Wellington County Library branches during the week of May 1 to 7;
– enter a draw for an emergency kit at any of the library branches. Two 72 hour kits will be given away this year;
– visit the municipal office and enter a draw for a weather radio; and
