Puslinch bylaw to be reviewed to deal with sign issues

It may be a sign of the times, but Puslinch councillors here are ready for a serious look at the sign bylaw.

The move followed a report by Chief Building Official David Thompson that outlined a recent written complaint to the township.

Thompson noted the complaint was “signed by numerous individuals who are upset with the temporary signs located throughout the township.”

He said the issue has been to council before, but the township’s sign bylaw is now 20 years old.

Thompson said during the past term of council, the process was started to review it. The 1991 bylaw is outdated.

Councillor Susan Fielding said while she is willing to look at it, she asked Thompson if he was ready to become a bylaw officer regarding signs.

He responded that he was.

Other councillors also agreed with the need for a new  bylaw.

Some of the issues include mobile signs and signs along Highway 401.

Thompson said he would want to work with county planning staff on it, “but ultimately it is up to you guys to decide.”

Councillor Wayne Stokley said while “some of the signs are okay, some are unsightly.”

He also believes it is important to get the ball rolling.

Mayor Dennis Lever agreed with the review, and added “a number of bylaws are past their best before date.”
