The Elora Farmers’ Market will be located in Bissell Park this season.
Parks and Recreation Director Andy Goldie said with township policy, commercial operators need an agreement and pay a fee. The Farmers’ Market will pay $200 a month, and use the township’s existing water tap and electric connections but vendors will have to supply hoses and electrical cords. Users will have to ensure safety, because there will be other users there, too.
The market will provide a portable washroom at a location agreed upon by the Parks and Recreation department, and pay for all costs associated with it. Park users will have access to it all summer.
A temporary storage facility will be allowed, at 10- by 12-feet, for market use.
The market will start May 14, and run to mid-November. It will provide $2-million in liability insurance.
Councillor Walt Visser asked if the pipes and electrical set-up will be inspected.
Goldie said staff will make sure the appropriate set-up is in place.
Councillor Fred Morris said $200 a month in rent does not seem like much considering the supply of water and electricity.
Goldie said staff will monitor the costs in order to set a fee for next year.
Mayor Joanne Ross-Zuj asked about garbage.
Parks garbage is collected Mondays and Fridays, and vendors will haul away their own garbage. Council approved the agreement.
