Only in the larger centres.
That was the message from Fergus TD Canada Trust bank manager Hugh Calderwood on Monday when asked if bank branches in Wellington County would be opening on Sundays.
The bank announced in a national commercial during the Superbowl on Sunday night that over 300 branches of TD Canada Trust would be offering Sunday service to customers starting Feb. 13.
Calderwood said that the affected branches will open in major urban centres and many are located in high traffic areas such as large malls.
There will be two branches in Guelph open: one near Stone Road Mall on Edinburgh Road and the other at Paisley and Imperial Roads. There will also be branches open Sundays in Kitchener and Cambridge.
Calderwood said from what he has heard, those selected branches are the only ones the bank plans to operate on Sundays, and it has no current plans to start introducing Sunday services piecemeal in the immediate future.
He added that TD Canada Trust is not the first bank to offer Sunday services and noted CIBC has a few branches offering service that day in branches scattered across Canada.
“For people here, there’s probably not a need,” he concluded, noting that all TD customers can still do banking by phone and internet every day of the week.
