Aberfoyle school kicked off Read-a-thon this week

Who says February is the month to suffer from the winter blahs?

It certainly won’t be the case for the students at Aberfoyle Public School this February.

The school’s council is excited to announce a new fundraising initiative: a Read-A-Thon which kicked off on Feb. 1.

Students will raise money by obtaining pledges to reach their reading goals and in order to do so they must read daily. This is a fantastic opportunity to encourage good reading habits and strengthen the students’ literacy skills.

Special activities took place on the kick-off day. School council organized visits for students in all grades from the following special guests:

– children’s entertainer Andrew Queen;

– children’s author Robert Weston;

– African drumming storyteller Fule Badoe; and

– Harry Endulat of, Max and Ruby fame.

School officials would like to thank the major sponsors who generously donated money to the campaign, including: TD Bank (Clair Road), Meridian Credit Union (Clair Road), Dufferin Aggregates, Con Cast Pipe and RLB Accounting Group.

The money raised from this read-to-succeed initiative will be used to purchase new learning technologies for the school to improve outcomes for all students.
