For over a decade, three individuals have been fixtures on town council, and come Dec. 1, only one of those will remain.
Councillor Barb Tocher, who was again re-elected on Oct. 25, last week thanked Mayor Rod Finnie and councillor Ken Chapman for their work on town council over the last 13 years.
Finnie was defeated by county councillor Lou Maieron and Chapman was elected to replace Maieron at the upper tier. He will be replaced by newcomer Deb Callaghan.
Although councillors disagreed on many issues, and a lot on some, Finnie said his time on council was productive.
“We did manage to get most of the work of the town done in a positive manner,” he said on Nov. 16 during the term’s final regular council meeting.
Finnie, who said he now hopes to concentrate more on his land surveying business, also thanked fellow councillors.
“I think it’s been an enjoyable time,” he said, adding later in the meeting, “It’s certainly been an interesting time.”
Chapman thanked town staff members, saying he realizes he made things “interesting” for them at times. He also thanked three regular attendees at the council meetings and reflected on his time as a town councillor.
“Thirteen years is a long time,” he said.
To those who complain there’s nothing to do locally, Chapman suggested they run for council because then “there’s always something to do.”
