The Minto-Mapleton Communities In Motion Committee is pleased to have the opportunity to host two free workshops facilitated by the Ontario-based, non-profit organization 8-80’s Cities.
The mission of the 8-80’s Cities organization is to contribute to the creation of vibrant and healthy communities where residents live happier and enjoy great public spaces.
They believe safe walking and bicycling infrastructure and vibrant public places are key symptoms of a more people-orientated and socially equitable community. The leader for the workshops will be internationally known speaker Gil Penalosa.
Topics covered in the workshop will be international best practices, public places for one and all, the benefits of people-orientated communities, building political will and short and long term community goal setting.
Workshops will be held in the Town of Minto on Dec. 1 at the Palmerston Arena, 520 Cavan Street, from 10am to 1pm, and in Mapleton on Dec. 2 from 1 to 4pm at the Township of Mapleton Office, 7275 Side Road 16, Drayton.
This is a chance for the people of the communities of Minto and Mapleton to provide information on both the opportunities and barriers that affect active living in their communities. This valuable information will be compiled into a report in 2011 and will provide direction for community planning within Wellington County in the future.
Please attend one of these interesting workshops in your community. Space is limited so reserve your seat at either event by calling 519-638-1000.
