Two county residents had a fine showing at the Steel City Martial Arts Open on Oct. 23.
Moorefield resident Alida Hesselink, who teaches self defence/kickboxing and body bootcamp at Bodyworks Family Fitness in Drayton, is a first degree black belt student (Sensei) with Promar Karate, in Listowel.
At the Steel City Martial Arts Open, Hesselink claimed first place in traditional Black Belt Womens Weapons, second place in traditional Women’s Black Belt Kata, and third place in Womens Black Belt Creative Weapons.
Shihan (fifth degree black belt) Mark Yates, also of Promar Karate, which formerly held classes in Drayton, did extremely well. The Clifford resident won first place in men’s senior Black Belt Creative Weapons and first place in men’s senior Black Belt Traditional Weapons.
Promar Karate’s Pam Rollingson, a Promar blue belt student from Fordwich, claimed first place in adult advanced weapons, first place in adult advanced self-defence and third place in adult advanced Katas.
