County breaks ground for new Puslinch library

Wellington County and Puslinch Township held a ground breaking ceremony on Monday to celebrate the construction of a new library branch in Aberfoyle.

Replacing the current Puslinch library, the new branch will be located on the same property at 29 County Road 45 South, in Aberfoyle.

The 5,000 square foot building will include a multi-purpose room to hold library events and will be available for public rental. A gas fireplace, and window reading nooks will provide a pleasant environment for patrons. The library will be completely accessible and will house public library computer terminals, equipped with wireless Internet access.

“This new library will be a wonderful resource for the residents of Puslinch,” said county Warden Joanne Ross-Zuj.

“This improved branch will serve as a community meeting place where residents can connect and interact. Quality libraries are essential in creating educated communities, and provide opportunities for learning and discovery.”

Library board chairman Jamie Couper said, “In keeping with the county’s commitment to improving the environment, the new Puslinch library will be constructed using the County’s Green Legacy building standards.

“This branch will meet high energy efficient building requirements and will have sustainable building features reducing overall energy consumption.”

Puslinch Mayor Brad Whitcombe said, “Today’s ground breaking ceremony confirms the county’s commitment to investing in our local communities, while continuing to raise the standard of our library services.”

Chief librarian Janice Hindley added, “The Puslinch library staff look forward to working in this modern learning facility.”

Designed by the Guelph architecture firm of L. Alan Grinham, the new library is being built by TRP Construction General Contractors. It is scheduled to open in the summer of 2011.
