Glen Hall of the Minto Chamber of Commerce was at council on Sept. 1 to invite members to Savour the Flavours of Minto.
The event is slated for Oct 14 at the Palmerston community centre.
“Although I’ve been here in the past several times, for shopping spree announcements, awards and various things over the years, tonight is one of the more special events.”
He considered it unique because “it is called Savour the Flavours of Minto.”
Hall called the event a great opportunity to taste all of the amazing flavours of Minto from the ground up. He said the event ties together various features that are good.
The first is that this event features all local food prepared by local chefs. It pairs up 12 local producers and growers with 12 chefs or caterers “to put on a fantastic evening.”
There would be 12 tables around the room, and anyone attending can make their choices at the all-you-can-eat event.
You can enjoy as much of one or as many as 12 and go back several times. It’s a great event to enjoy healthy food, cooked, grown, and produced in Minto and the surrounding areas. It’s going to be a fantastic night to promote local produce, local meats, and everything local about the Minto area.
Hall said that although he was at the council meeting representing Minto’s Chamber of Commerce, there’s more to it.
He said the event is a partnership between five organizations: Minto Chamber, Town of Minto, Harriston-Minto Agricultural Society, Palmerston Agricultural Society, and the Minto Farmers’ Market.
“We not looking for something to replace the fairs, but to enhance them,” he said. “It takes the local produce and producers to the next level. It creates a chance for people to come and visit and enjoy the food as the season goes on.”
The Oct. 14 event falls just after Thanksgiving.
“It should be a great time to decorate the hall in a fantastic way,” he said.
He said tickets are now on sale, and organizers are looking for more sponsors.Two founding sponsors include Wightman Telecom and Larry Grummett Insurance Broker Ltd.
“Without them, we wouldn’t have gotten as far as we are now.”
There 12 stations will feature meats, vegetables, coffee, and wines.
Participants in the Savour the Flavours event can expect an eye-opening experience on the quality of food that is being produced and served in their community.
Mayor David Anderson said that each time Hall comes to council, “You bring something new and exciting. It’s always something good for the betterment of the Town of Minto.”
Hall added, “Once participants enjoy this absolutely amazing meal, we’re going to be entertained, and hopefully educated, by Anita Stewart. She’s an Elora native and speaks on buying local, growing local and basically having everything happen local.”
He said she’s published 11 books, appears on CBC?radio, and is a fantastic speaker.
“She certainly knows everything about everything local. It fits perfectly with what we are trying to do here,” Hall said.
